Summary: The Blue Pheasant has a lot of time to spend contemplating the way things are.
Notes: The timeline is the OP 'present' and involves information from 433, but it happens *before* everything with Water 7/Enies Lobby goes down.
He knows he shouldn't do it, the action one unbefitting of his station as an Admiral and one that disturbs the environment and the marine life besides.
But the sight of unbroken sea extending in every direction tempts him as he pedals along hour after hour, day after day with only fish and birds and his own musings for company. It takes barely a thought before he's surrounded by an ever-expanding circle of ice that spreads until it reaches the horizon, before he's left alone beneath the black, star-studded dome of night in a still, white landscape that seems to reflect the bleakness in his heart.
He stands on this vast crystal plain, and feels the rest of the world melt away.
He watches the heavens wheel by overhead and forgets the stronghold of corruption and decay his government has become; he watches the fog rise from the frosty surface in ephemeral clouds and doesn't think of promises to friends who've long left this earth; he watches schools of fish dart about beneath his feet until eventually even the small annoyances of daily life fade.
He watches, and finally all he's left with are his memories of a bittersweet past, and his hopes for a brighter future.
